Meet Actors for 'Monsters of the Id' written by Laurie
Garrick Hagon - plays Nathan Tenkade / Hurricane Garrick's career spans such films as Star Wars (Biggs), Spy Game, The Jacket, Batman, A Bridge Too Far and Anthony & Cleopatra. On TV he has been in Dr Who, Rebels & Redcoats, Julius Caesar, The Falklands Play, The Magnificent Ambersons and Love Hurts. In the Theatre he has appeared in Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, The Tempest, Journey's End, I Am Yours, and All My Sons. His audio work is amazing and covers over 100 audio books. Garrick was a natural choice for this production with such vocal skills and I like to consider him a personal friend too. Below is the Nathan CGI model, a character first seen in 'The War of the Starfighters' and played by Garrick then. Hence he had to keep this part. I am glad Garrick has the leading role in this movie.
Phil Delancy - plays Kade Lovell / Tornado I first met Phil after he was in The Phantom Menace and he was such a nice guy that I immediately thought of him for some of my corporate videos. He has also been in other films, Certainty Of The Heart and Hard News, Soft Money. On TV he has been seen in Only Fools & Horses, Bloody Britain, Imposter, Goal, Sweet Revenge, 999 - A Whirlwind Affair and Disaster - The Fire. Plus commercials such as Fosters, Callaway Golf Clubs and The Scope Charity. Phil has played in various corporate videos and the theatre. Special skills include bilingual French, and he is an ex-pilot. Below he is looking disheveled for a part in one of my productions. Notice as a matter of interest that I've asked him to play the older character in 'Id'. It was interesting to hear him adapt his voice for the older Kade compared to the younger Tornado (in a dream you can be whatever age you wish to be). Phil has always been very helpful and a pleasure to know.
Eileen Daly - plays Jenny Lovell / Jetstream Films include Razor Blade Smile, The Last Exorcism, Alone in the Dark, Cradle of Fear, Archangel Thunderbird and Kannibal. TV includes Vampyria Documentary, Sex & Shopping, Eurotrash, Beck, Eastenders, Big Breakfast, Kilroy and Fantasy By Gaslight. The sexy and lovely Eileen is such a kind person and gives her time to charities too. She was very eager to help me on 'Id' and is always very friendly. A really nice lady indeed with a fantastic face and figure - wasted in a CGI movie!
Rosie Jenkins - plays Tameka Wu / Tsunami Rosie does a lot of stage work and has been in such productions as Eight Miles High, Femme Fatale, A Chorus Line, West Side Story, played the Princess in Jack and the Beanstalk, and taken the lead in Snow White. On TV she has been in Crime Watch and on Family Affairs . Plus we have worked together on several corporate videos. I asked her a while ago if she might one day supply a voice for me. Thankfully she said yes. I think the talented and pretty Rosie Jenkins is a star of the future, so I am very pleased to have her skills on board. She put herself out to help me on this, taking a break from a busy work schedule. Rosie's voice is a bit higher and I thought this would contrast well in the movie. A lovely voice from a lovely lady.
Marsha Crenshaw - plays Amanda Rockwell / Cyclone When I emailed Marsha to play a part in my film I was amazed that she phoned me just 15 minutes later. Not only that but it was 6 a.m. where she lives in America! She was great fun to chat to even though we both speak a different version of English. A charming lady and funny too. Marsha prefers to remain without a picture either here or on her web site, I think to add to the mystique. She has sent me a picture though and she is a very pretty lady. I should have made this film live action as I am wasting all of the good looking actresses! I cast her via the Internet, downloaded her demo reel, and emailed her. Amazing how this role was filled in a different but very effective way. Her voice is great! Marsha is such a strong vocal talent that I've already asked her to voice for another short film too.
Ed Bishop - plays Ben (cameo)
Ed was so easy to get along with during a video I was making with him, that it was easy to ask him to get involved with this film. He actually wanted to do more in it. A really friendly guy. Ed passed away just a few weeks after recording for me, so I feel honoured to have one of his last performances. I did manage to send him his completed scene in time though. He will be missed.
Samantha Pilley - plays Carrie (cameo) Theatrical productions include Saint Joan, Mack & Mabel and Bugsy Malone. Samantha has also been in the Zovirax advert, and played parts in Essex Boys and 51st State. She has also done some modelling, not surprising as the camera likes her. I met Samantha through making corporate videos. She is the daughter of a work colleague, Steve, and I think she is someone with a bright future ahead in acting. I had to ask her to play a part just so that one day when she is famous I can say I discovered her! Even though that isn't actually true.... Samantha is easy to work with and a skilled actor already. I was an extra alongside her acting a role recently and she actually cried tears whilst paying the part. Brought tears to my eyes too!
Claire Spence - plays Mzuri (cameo) Claire has been in a few feature length movies such as The Games that People play, GT (working title), and Death comes from the touch of the Funnyman. She has been in commercials for PC World and been in The Mag on TV. She has also done theatrical and radio work, so quite a varied career already. Claire caught my eye as someone with a lot of talent. She is easy to work with too. I recommend her. A star in the making.
Warwick Davis - plays The Nemesis Warwick has appeared in many top films. He first got picked for Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi and the two Ewok movies. He was the lead in George Lucas's and Ron Howard's Willow, played Flitwick in the Harry Potter films, was Marvin the robot in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Labyrinth and the various Leprechaun movies. He was also in the newer Star Wars films too. He has been in Aladdin, Snow White and Peter Pan in the Theatre and has been in many commercials such as the Gremlin in the Adult Basic Skills adverts. This was one of the most fun times I had recording lines. Warwick really got into it and came up with lots of ideas even though it was only a few lines. I am fortunate to have his talents on board this movie. Warwick is just a great guy.
A big thank you to the very special people above. A very grateful thanks to my friends and family who played parts in this movie too. Makes it all the more special.
Meet the Crew for 'Monsters of the Id'
Laurie Calvert - Director / Producer / Film maker / Web page maker Reared in England on a staple diet of science-fiction films and Airfix models, it was perhaps inevitable that I would eventually end up doing what I do. Born 17th September 1961, I was named Laurence after my father and Grandfather making me the third to bear that name. I would go on to get 9 'O' levels and 3 'A' levels at school and be top of my year for two years running. Work hard at school kids.I later went to Art College having withdrawn my University application. Instead I wanted to work in Special Effects and this I achieved (as a special effects Light scan cameraman) with a rostrum camera company called Filmfex. This was as a direct result of my Star Wars interest inspiring me. Star Wars is my favourite film of all time by far. I worked on over 100 TV shows and adverts and 5 feature films. I also do part-time work as a background artiste (film extra). One role included work on Shakespeare in Love and I auditioned for The Phantom Menace too. I currently work as a mild mannered Civil Servant sometimes making videos. But none of this helps my amateur computer graphics and I am proud to be self-taught. I guess the moral is to keep on trying and some things pay off. AKM Music and Philip Guyler have supplied the soundtrack on this film. Because of copyright issues (over 1,000 copies) I couldn't use EJay music software on this movie made by myself, as I have with other projects. Some models have been downloaded from Daz 3D but then that is what they are there for. So essentially this is a one-man-film in terms of the visuals and total time put in by each person.
Philip Guyler - Original Music Philip has been composing music for media professionally for several years. His music has been used worldwide in TV, commercials and film, covering a diverse mix of styles from electronic to orchestral. Credits include music for the award winning films 'Checking Out' and 'Takeaway', one of the largest entertainment shows ever made for primetime ITV1 'Simply The Best' and the long running BBC1 series 'Traffic Cops' to name but a few. AKM Music will also be supplying music for some scenes, the extras features, and a special version of 'Monsters of the Id' will be made for them. This is because this music is used to edit to and to give Philip a flavour of what is required. So a version of the film will exist with AKM copyright free tracks on it fully too. See the links section.
Albert Schuller - Executive Producer Albert runs a successful computer business called Manhattan Computers. In fact his team built the PC that Laurie is using to make the film. He has worked with Laurie before on a robot project for BBC's 'Robot Wars' in which they took their robot Lightning into the top 32 during its first year of combat. Then the show finished, otherwise Lightning was destined to do better still. Lightning stills survives and has a high win ratio of around 66%. Albert is helping to sponsor 'Id' and has been behind the project from the early days.
