Profiles of the Main Characters from 'Monsters of the Id'
PROFILE Nathan Tenkade/Hurricane The lead character in Monsters of the Id. Nathan is a forty-something year old American who has a fear of skeletons brought on from a shock as a child. He combats this by becoming a superhero in nightmares (not in reality) called Hurricane and as this character he defeats his skeleton nightmare. Once he defeats his own monster of the id, he decides he has found his calling and decides to be heroic and help other people with their own nightmares. Along the way he meets other dream superheroes that have been doing this for years. They ask him to help them defeat a rival called the Nemesis, a robot/human bent on stopping them in their heroic ventures. At first Nathan is reluctant to help and is wary of their claims that it was they that helped him become Hurricane. He resists their pleas for help initially and is quite angry at being manipulated by Kade. But as time goes on, he falls in love with Jenny Lovell (Jetstream) who is Kades daughter and eventually he helps Kade and the others fight the Nemesis once he realises their intentions are fundamentally good. Hurricane gets his motivation to help others once he realises he has a special ability to visit other peoples nightmares. He is a good person at heart. At first a bit unsure as to whether he should help his new found superhero friends, he eventually builds in confidence to rightly take his place as the greatest dream superhero ever.
PROFILE Kade Lovell/Tornado The wise character in Monsters of the Id. Kade is a bit older than Nathan, probably in his fifties. When he becomes his dream alter ego, Tornado, he is extremely fit but in reality he is not quite so young. The oldest, wisest and most experienced dream superhero, Kade has in recent times been dogged by the presence of the Nemesis robot, a mysterious apparition that has been stopping him and his band of superheroes in their quest to rid people of their nightmare monsters. As the Nemesis gets stronger, so Kade gets weaker and more worried. He fears for his life and also the life of his fellows. A once brave hero becomes weakened over time. He has been searching for a potential superhero stronger than himself to defeat the Nemesis and eventually his search leads him to help Nathan create Hurricane. Kade is driven by this one single thought to destroy the Nemesis before it destroys them. Kade has a daughter, Jenny, who is the superhero Jetstream. This adds another element of worry to his situation but also immense pride.
PROFILE Jenny Lovell/Jetstream The intelligent, sexy character in Monsters of the Id. Jenny is the young daughter of Kade. She has been taught by Kade to be a dream superhero, long before the threat of the Nemesis robot appeared. She is a good person, driven to help her father at all costs. She is brave and strong in personality. As time goes on, she falls for Nathan, at first because she wants him to help her father but later because she just plain likes him. She is chosen by Kade to meet Hurricane first as being the best ambassador the super heroes have, at least as far as the Hurricane is concerned. Kades judgement is right as she does indeed get Hurricane to help them, eventually. Jetstream generally works with two other girl superheroes, Tsunami and Cyclone.
PROFILE Takema Wu/Tsunami & Amanda Rockwell/Cyclone The brave right hand man characters in Monsters of the Id. The blonde haired Takema Wu has a Japanese father and English mother. She normally works with Jetstream and Cyclone in their fight against monsters from peoples nightmares. In dreams she becomes Tsunami and gets dark hair to boot. Takema is a strong and very brave personality. Very self-assured too. Amanda Rockwell has an American father and African mother. The newest and least experienced of Tornados team, she is none the less eager to get into the action. When Amanda is hurt by the Nemesis she has to give up her superhero image as the hair-free Cyclone.
PROFILE Nemesis Robot The enemy character in Monsters of the Id. The Nemesis robot has apparently come from nowhere to interfere with the dream superheroes in their fight against monsters from peoples nightmares. But he has come from somewhere and for a reason. The Nemesis becomes the ultimate monster from the Id as it gets stronger and stronger. Driven by a single desire to destroy Tornado and his group, the Nemesis even physically increases in size as it gets stronger. Is it a robot? Is it a person within an armour suit? More importantly, how do our heroes stop it?
